How Our Probiotics Survive Stomach Acid to Reach Your Gut

Discover how the probiotics in Together Health's Multibiotic are formulated to survive stomach acid and effectively reach your gut for maximum health benefits.

Updated over a month ago

A key question many people ask about probiotics is whether they can survive the journey through the stomach to reach the gut. At Together Health, we carefully select and formulate our probiotic strains to ensure they make it through the harsh environment of the stomach so they can support your digestive health effectively.

The stomach is an extremely acidic environment, which helps protect the body from harmful pathogens but also presents a challenge for probiotic bacteria. To address this, we use a combination of specially chosen strains that are naturally robust, including both spore-forming and non-spore-forming probiotics.

Spore-Forming Strains

Our Multibiotic includes Bacillus Coagulans, a type of spore-forming probiotic. These strains are often referred to as 'sporebiotics' because they form protective spores that allow them to withstand stomach acid. The spore acts as a natural shield, enabling the bacteria to pass through the stomach unharmed and reach the intestines, where they can begin to provide their health benefits. Bacillus Coagulans is one of the most well-researched sporebiotics, known for its positive effects on gut health, immune function, and maintaining a balanced gut microbiome.

Non-Spore-Forming Strains

We also include non-spore-forming strains such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium in our Multibiotic. Although these strains do not form spores, they are naturally resilient and have been carefully selected for their ability to survive stomach acid. These strains have a proven history of surviving the journey to the gut, thanks to their inherent resistance to acidic conditions.

Moreover, even if some of these bacteria do not survive the stomach completely intact, research indicates they can still contribute significantly to gut health by interacting with the gut lining and supporting immune functions.

By combining spore-forming and non-spore-forming probiotics, our Multibiotic ensures that a diverse range of beneficial bacteria can reach your gut and provide their full spectrum of benefits. This multi-faceted approach helps support a balanced digestive system, promote gut health, and contribute to overall wellbeing.
