Why does my omega 3 product smell stronger than other packs I've had?

We discuss some of the things to check when your omega pack smells stronger than normal to ensure it’s safe to consume.

Updated over 3 years ago

When your omega pack has a strong smell this is not necessarily a sign it's bad, there are a few reasons why they can smell different but it's best to first check some things:

  1. Is your product still in date? You can check the use-by date on the bottom of the pack.

  2. Has your pack not been opened longer than 2 months?

  3. Was your pack still sealed when you opened it?

  4. Is your pack in good condition and uncompromised?

  5. Is there any split capsules inside the pack that have leaked oil into the pouch?

If any of the above are true please let us know.

If none of the above are true the product is likely perfectly fine, algae oil is a natural product that may vary in colour, smell, and taste depending on the batch. Also, the more time that passes from the production date the stronger the product will smell due to normal oxidation, this is amplified by the fact it’s in a small airtight bag. This is normal and the pack/smell would air out given time.
