We do not recommend taking our Eye Defence supplement during pregnancy. It contains antioxidants and carotenoids that support eye health and vision. Lutein, zeaxanthin and beta-carotene are generally considered safe during pregnancy, but evidence is limited regarding optimal dosages. There are questions about astaxanthin during pregnancy and limited research on its use during pregnancy.
These carotenoids can cross the placenta and accumulate in the eyes and brain tissue of the developing fetus. While they provide benefits like decreasing risk of certain congenital disabilities, high amounts may also have antagonistic effects.
Due to of the lack of definitive evidence and research, we advise avoiding Eye Defence until after giving birth.
